How to determine whether a lawyer's reports are due or overdue

Initial and Periodic Reports

When a matter is labeled “Due”, that means the lawyer needs to report on the matter to the portal administrator.

There are two different ways for a matter to become due:

  1. Initial reports: A new matter (i.e. a recently processed referral) becomes due some increment of time after the lawyer receives the request. This increment of time is based on your portal preferences (e.g. 5 business days, one month, etc)
  2. Periodic reports: Ongoing matters become at a set period of time during the year. This schedule is based on your portal preferences (e.g. every three months, every six months, yearly).

Whenever a matter becomes due, your system automatically generates an email to the attorney alerting them that they must submit a report.

Overdue Reports

For a report to become “Overdue”, the report for the matter must first become due and then the grace period for the lawyer to submit the report must elapse. This grace period is based on your portal preferences (e.g. 7 days, 14 days). When a report becomes overdue, the lawyers receives periodic email notifications until the issue is resolved.

By visiting the Lawyers tab of your dashboard, you can see how many overdue reports each lawyer has at the top level of each lawyer's card. To view the details of an overdue matter, click on the lawyer card to expand it and then select the Overdue Reports section from the available options. All overdue reports will be listed in that section, along with the Matter's ID, Client Name, and date the lawyer last received a reminder to submit a report.

Depending on your portal preferences, your portal may not have the overdue report feature enabled.
